Visiting Þórsmörk, the Icelandic highlands
Visiting Þórsmörk, the Icelandic highlands Þórsmörk national park is without a doubt one of the most beautiful places you can find in Iceland. In this magical valley you’re surrounded by glaciers, moss-covered volcanoes and branching glacial rivers. This is simply the photographer’s paradise and leaves no nature lover disappointed. The hiking routes are endless and often lead you to complete isolation, giving you the true feeling of being one with nature. How to get to Þórsmörk Valley How you get there is another story. It’s not just a quick stop from the ring road. On the contrary you’ll have to cross a couple of rivers which are ever changing in depth, power and route. The road is also a bit bumpy and not always clearly visible in bad weather conditions. Personally I think the torrential route to get there is beneficial for Þórsmörk and protects it from mass tourism. Start by renting a 4×4 car If you are not getting there by bus you’ll definitely need to rent a powerful 4×4 truck with sufficiently large tires to cross the river, especially Krossá river! Otherwise you don’t stand a chance and risk ruining your rental car during the crossing. Þórsmörk is a summer paradise with […]

Suntopia Pegasos World Hotel, Turkey
Suntopia Pegasos World Hotel We got the chance to stay at Suntopia Pegasos World Hotel a all-inclusive hotel in Side. Let me tell you all about it Turkey Turkey has had a special place in my heart ever since I was 16 years old and travelled there with my family for the first time. I remember we all fell in love with the friendly locals, delicious food, colourful culture and the beautiful coastline. Who knew that 8 years later I would find myself working as a tour guide at the exact same location! In 2014 I moved to Antalya where I worked as a guide for 6 months. During that period I got an even deeper understanding of the culture and my love towards Turkey only became stronger. Since then I’ve learned a few words and phrases (“merhaba”, “hozgaldiniz”), lead excursions to the Taurus mountains and entertained as a pirate on a cruise down the Manavgat river. Now Turkey is my home away from home and I’m going to try to share with you my favourite travel secrets about the area. My first post will be dedicated to the small holiday town Side and the family hotel Pegasos World. Side Side is a […]

Diving in Malapascua Island with Thresher Cove Resort
The Philippine Archipelago consists of 7107 remarkable islands, many of which are home to the best dive spots in the world. Malapascua island is one of them and is considered a must visit for dive enthusiasts, mainly for its unique attraction; the Thresher sharks! These long tailed sharks (almost half of their body size) are loners and normally live in deep water. But just off the coast of Malapascua you’ll find an underwater plateau named Monad Shoal, which is widely famous for being the only place in the world where you can witness these magnificent creatures on a daily basis. Early morning, they rise from the depths up to about 25-30 meters to get cleaned by the reef fishes. After hearing so much about Malapascua island and the Thresher sharks from fellow divers during our dive adventures in El Nido and Apo island, we decided to add it to our must see list. After all, we had just extended our visa for another month in the Philippines. How to get to Malapascua island? Fly to Cebu city (or take a bus or ferry to Cebu depending on where you are) Catch a taxi to the North Bus Terminal in Cebu […]

Diving in Apo Island with Bongo Bongo Divers
After three weeks of beaches, island hopping and diving in Palawan we only wanted more, so we extended our visa for another month. I guess we’re already addicted to the Philippines! We were looking forward to some more diving and many travellers we met had recommended Apo, a small island south of Negros Oriental. Apo island is one of Philippines best dive sites and is frequently rated among top 10 dive sites in the country. We were convinced, so after leaving Cebu using the classic Philippino travel combo; a tricycle, a bus, a ferry and a jeepney, we arrived in Dumagueta. With no planned accommodation in the concrete jungle of Dumaguete, we sat down at wi-fi café. We found a place to stay that we wanted to take a closer look at, but as we walked out we met a German expat, that recommended Bongo Bongo Divers, a dive resort located in the small coastal town called Dauin. We decided to trust his advice and after a 20 min bus ride we arrived at Bongo Bongo divers in Dauin. Let me just say that it was the best decision ever! Sometimes taking spontaneous decisions leads you to hidden pearls and […]
